Author Guidelines

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

1. General Requirements

  1. JUCOSCO accepts scientific articles derived from implemented community service or community empowerment programs in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Computer Systems, and the application of science and technology for society.
  2. The manuscript must report an implemented program and clearly describe the partner’s problems, science- or technology-based solutions, implementation methods, program results, evaluation, and benefits or impacts on the community.
  3. The manuscript must be original, free from plagiarism, unpublished, and not under submission, review, or publication by another journal or publication medium.
  4. The manuscript may be written in Indonesian or English. Every manuscript must include an English Abstract and Keywords and an Indonesian Abstrak and Kata Kunci.
  5. The manuscript must use formal, clear, objective, systematic, and comprehensible language.
  6. Authors must use the official JUCOSCO template and must not alter the paper size, margins, fonts, font sizes, section structure, headers, footers, or other prescribed formatting.
  7. Manuscripts must be submitted as Microsoft Word .doc or .docx files.
  8. Manuscript length must be 10–16 pages, including figures, tables, acknowledgements, and references. The total number of pages must be even.
  9. All manuscripts will undergo an initial editorial screening, similarity checking, and peer review by qualified reviewers.
  10. The editors may perform language and layout editing without changing the manuscript’s substantive content.
  11. Authors are fully responsible for originality, data validity, research and community-service ethics, permission to use documentation, and any potential copyright infringement.

2. General Formatting

The manuscript must follow these specifications:

  • Paper size: A4.
  • Layout: single column.
  • Margins: 3 cm on all sides.
  • Main font: Times New Roman, 11 pt.
  • Line spacing: 1.5.
  • Paragraph spacing before and after: 0 pt.
  • Alignment: justified.
  • New paragraphs: left aligned without first-line indentation.
  • Foreign or non-English terms: italic.
  • Main section numbering: Roman numerals.
  • Main section headings: uppercase and bold.

3. Manuscript Structure

3.1 Article Title

The title must accurately and concisely represent the principal content of the community service program.

Requirements:

  • Maximum of 12 words.
  • Written in Title Case.
  • Times New Roman, 14 pt, bold, and centered.
  • Avoid uncommon abbreviations, formulas, mathematical expressions, special symbols, and non-informative wording.

3.2 Authors and Affiliations

Authors’ names must be written without academic degrees, professional titles, positions, or ranks.

Requirements:

  • Authors’ names: Times New Roman, 11 pt, centered.
  • Use superscript numbers to connect each author to the appropriate affiliation.
  • Identify the corresponding author with an asterisk *.
  • Affiliations must contain the study program, faculty, institution, address, province, country, and email address.
  • Affiliations and email addresses: Times New Roman, 10 pt.
  • Authors sharing the same affiliation should use the same superscript number.
  • Email addresses for all authors must be provided.

3.3 Abstract

The English Abstract must briefly describe:

  • Background or urgency.
  • Partner or community problem.
  • Program objective.
  • Implementation method.
  • Principal results.
  • Originality or added value.
  • Implications or program sustainability.

Requirements:

  • Maximum of 250 words.
  • Written as one paragraph.
  • Times New Roman, 10 pt, italic.
  • Single spacing.
  • No citations, tables, figures, formulas, or uncommon abbreviations.

3.4 Keywords

Keywords must:

  • Appear immediately after the Abstract.
  • Consist of 3–5 words or phrases, with a maximum of five.
  • Represent the main concepts of the article.
  • Use Times New Roman, 10 pt, italic.
  • Be separated by commas.

3.5 Abstrak

An Indonesian Abstrak must be provided and must contain the same principal information as the English Abstract.

Requirements:

  • Maximum of 250 words.
  • Written as one paragraph.
  • Times New Roman, 10 pt.
  • Single spacing.
  • No citations, tables, figures, formulas, or uncommon abbreviations.

3.6 Kata Kunci

Indonesian Kata Kunci must:

  • Appear immediately after the Abstrak.
  • Consist of 3–5 words or phrases, with a maximum of five.
  • Represent the main concepts of the article.
  • Use Times New Roman, 10 pt.
  • Be separated by commas.

3.7 I. INTRODUCTION

The Introduction must explain:

  1. Background and urgency of the program.
  2. Problems encountered by the community or partner.
  3. Relevant literature and previous community service activities.
  4. The gap between the expected and actual conditions.
  5. The proposed solution or approach.
  6. The program’s novelty or innovation.
  7. The objectives of the community service program.

The literature review must be integrated into the Introduction and should demonstrate the article’s contribution and distinction from previous activities or publications.

Excessive use of subsections should be avoided.

3.8 II. SITUATION ANALYSIS — OPTIONAL

Situation Analysis may be included to provide a more detailed description of:

  • Partner profile and characteristics.
  • Social, economic, educational, technological, or environmental conditions.
  • Partner resources and potential.
  • Priority problems.
  • Causes and impacts of the problems.
  • Partner needs underlying the program design.

The analysis should be supported by observations, interviews, documentation, relevant data, or other accountable sources.

3.9 III. IMPLEMENTATION METHOD

The Implementation Method explains how the community service program was carried out. It should include:

  1. Location and period of implementation.
  2. Target community or partner.
  3. Number and characteristics of participants.
  4. Stages of implementation.
  5. Approaches or methods employed.
  6. Materials, equipment, applications, or technologies used.
  7. Evaluation data collection techniques.
  8. Evaluation instruments.
  9. Indicators of success.
  10. Data analysis techniques.
  11. Partner participation.
  12. Program sustainability plans, when applicable.

The implementation stages may be presented using a flowchart, diagram, or table.

3.10 IV. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This section must report the actual results of the community service or empowerment program, including:

  1. Implementation of each program stage.
  2. Products, technologies, skills, or services produced.
  3. Achievement of success indicators.
  4. Participant or partner evaluation results.
  5. Comparison between conditions before and after the program.
  6. Challenges and corrective actions.
  7. Benefits or impacts on the partner.
  8. Interpretation of results in relation to relevant literature.
  9. Program strengths, limitations, and sustainability opportunities.

Results must not consist solely of activity photographs. Every table, figure, graph, and evaluation result must be described and interpreted in the text.

Subsections may be used, for example:

  • IV.1 Program Implementation
  • IV.2 Evaluation Results
  • IV.3 Program Impact and Sustainability

3.11 Figures

  • All photographs, graphs, diagrams, flowcharts, and screenshots are referred to as figures.
  • Figures must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals.
  • Figures must be placed close to their first reference in the text.
  • Figures must be inserted inline and not submitted separately.
  • Images must be clear and legible.
  • Captions must appear below the figure.
  • Figure numbers and captions must use Times New Roman, 9 pt, centered.
  • The word “Figure” and its number must be bold.
  • The source of every figure must be stated.
  • Every figure must be cited and discussed in the manuscript.

3.12 Tables

  • Tables must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals.
  • Titles must appear above the table.
  • Table numbers and titles must use Times New Roman, 9 pt, centered.
  • The word “Table” and its number must be bold.
  • Tables must remain editable and must not be submitted as images.
  • The source must appear below the table.
  • Every table must be cited and discussed in the manuscript.
  • Excessive table borders should be avoided.

3.13 V. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This section must contain:

  • A concise summary of the principal results.
  • Achievement of the program objectives.
  • Benefits or impacts on the partner.
  • Answers to the stated problems.
  • Recommendations for improving or extending the program.
  • Suggestions concerning program sustainability.

No new data or discussion should be introduced in this section.

3.14 Acknowledgements — Optional

Acknowledgements may recognize funding agencies, institutions, partners, sponsors, or other parties that contributed significantly to the program.

Acknowledgements must be written as a narrative paragraph without numbering.

3.15 References

  • Citations and references must follow APA Style, 7th edition.
  • Authors must use reference management software such as Mendeley or Zotero.
  • Every in-text citation must appear in the reference list and vice versa.
  • At least 10 references must be included.
  • References published within the most recent 10 years should be prioritized.
  • Priority should be given to peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, academic books, standards, and official sources.
  • References must be presented in one alphabetical list and must not be separated into books, journals, websites, or other categories.
  • DOI links must be provided when available.
  • Web sources without identifiable authors, publication dates, or publishers should be avoided.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements:

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 11-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Semua pengajuan harus memenuhi persyaratan berikut:

  • Naskah merupakan hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian atau pemberdayaan masyarakat.
  • Naskah asli, belum pernah dipublikasikan, dan tidak sedang diajukan pada jurnal lain.
  • Naskah telah menggunakan template resmi JUCOSCO.
  • Panjang naskah 10–16 halaman dan jumlah halamannya genap.
  • Naskah telah dilengkapi Abstract, Keywords, Abstrak, dan Kata Kunci.
  • Sitasi dan referensi menggunakan APA Style edisi ke-7 melalui Mendeley atau Zotero.
  • Referensi berjumlah minimal 10 sumber dan diprioritaskan dari 10 tahun terakhir.
  • Seluruh gambar dan tabel telah diberi nomor, judul, sumber, serta dirujuk dalam teks.
  • Seluruh identitas penulis, afiliasi, email, dan penulis korespondensi telah dicantumkan.
  • Penulis telah memastikan izin penggunaan foto, dokumentasi, data mitra, dan materi berhak cipta.
