Abstract

PT. YJ is a company that operates in the field of industrial machine service and provides industrial equipment components. In the 6 months from July 2023 - December 2023, there was a significant decline in product quality until it was discovered that the 700 diameter break plate seal was the production with the highest number of defects. During the 6 months of production of the Ø 700 Break Plate Seal, the defect rate was quite high, especially in October, reaching 11%, which had exceeded the tolerance limits given by the company. The high level of defects is caused by 3 types of defects, namely black dot, bubble and short mold. Seeing the problems that occur, it is necessary to carry out an analysis to reduce the level of defects in the 700 diameter break plate seal product using the FMEA (Failure Mode Effect And Analysis) method. Based on the results of the analysis using the Failure Mode And Effect Analysis (FMEA) method, it is known that the dominant factor that is the cause of the high level of defects in the Break 700 plate seal product is caused by the failure mode due to unstable engine temperatures, and the method factor caused by the process failure mode. cutting is still manual so the recommendation for improvement that will be given is to replace several electrical heater elements that are no longer good and create a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the cutting process
