Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Jaring SainTek (JJST) is committed to ensuring that authorship accurately reflects the intellectual contributions and responsibilities of individuals involved in scholarly research. The journal promotes transparency, fairness, accountability, and ethical practices in determining authorship and acknowledging contributions.

This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Jaring SainTek, including original research articles, review articles, and other scholarly contributions within the journal's scope. The policy is informed by internationally recognized authorship principles and best practices for research and publication ethics.

1. Authorship Criteria

To qualify for authorship, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial contribution: Make a substantial intellectual contribution to the conception or design of the work, the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data, or the development of research methods or software that is integral to the study.

  2. Writing and critical review: Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final approval: Approve the final version of the manuscript to be submitted for publication and any subsequent version requiring their approval.

  4. Accountability: Agree to be accountable for their own contributions and to help ensure that questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated, resolved, and documented.

All individuals designated as authors must satisfy all four criteria. Contributors who initially make substantial intellectual contributions should be given the opportunity to participate in manuscript preparation or critical review and to approve the final version.

At least one author should take overall responsibility for the integrity of the work as a whole, ensuring that the research is reported accurately and transparently and that the relevant supporting information is available where appropriate.

2. Author Contributions (CRediT Taxonomy)

Jurnal Jaring SainTek requires a statement of author contributions using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). Each author’s contributions must be clearly identified to promote transparency and accountability.

The following roles may be used, as applicable to the research:

  • Conceptualization: Formulation of the research ideas and objectives.

  • Methodology: Development or design of the research methods.

  • Software: Programming, software development, or implementation of computational tools.

  • Validation: Verification of the validity, reproducibility, or reliability of the results.

  • Formal Analysis: Application of statistical, mathematical, computational, or other analytical techniques.

  • Investigation: Conducting the research and carrying out experiments or data collection.

  • Resources: Provision of research materials, equipment, instruments, or other resources.

  • Data Curation: Management, organization, documentation, and preparation of research data.

  • Writing – Original Draft: Preparation of the initial manuscript.

  • Writing – Review & Editing: Critical review, revision, and editing of the manuscript.

  • Visualization: Preparation of figures, diagrams, charts, or other visual representations.

  • Supervision: Oversight and leadership responsibility for the research.

  • Project Administration: Coordination and management of research activities.

  • Funding Acquisition: Obtaining financial support for the research.

Authors should select only the roles that accurately reflect their actual contributions. Not every role must be assigned to every author, and some roles may involve multiple authors.

Example of an Author Contributions Statement:

A.B.: Conceptualization, Methodology, Writing – Original Draft; C.D.: Investigation, Data Curation, Formal Analysis, Visualization; E.F.: Supervision, Funding Acquisition, Writing – Review & Editing. All authors reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agreed to be accountable for their respective contributions.

3. Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship

Activities that do not independently justify authorship include, but are not limited to:

  • General supervision or management of a research group.

  • Acquisition of funding without substantial intellectual contributions.

  • Administrative or logistical support.

  • Data collection alone without substantial intellectual contribution to the research and manuscript.

  • Language editing, proofreading, formatting, or translation alone.

  • Technical assistance or provision of equipment without substantial intellectual input.

  • General advice that does not constitute a substantive contribution to the research.

Individuals whose contributions do not meet the authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section, with their contributions described accurately.

Where appropriate, the corresponding author should obtain permission from individuals before acknowledging them.

4. Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the editorial team of Jurnal Jaring SainTek.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:

  1. All individuals who meet the authorship criteria are included in the author list, and no individual is listed as an author without their consent.

  2. All authors have approved the manuscript, the author order, and the submission to the journal.

  3. The Author Contributions (CRediT) statement accurately represents the contributions of each author.

  4. All required declarations, including funding information, data availability, research ethics and informed consent where applicable, competing interests, and the use of generative AI tools, are complete and accurate.

  5. All necessary permissions for third-party materials, datasets, images, and other copyrighted content have been obtained.

  6. All authors are informed of significant communications from the editorial team and are involved in responding to substantive editorial queries.

  7. Proofreading and author approval of the final production version are coordinated following acceptance.

  8. Questions or concerns regarding the accuracy, integrity, or ethics of the published work are addressed promptly, including after publication.

The corresponding author must not make unilateral changes to the author list or authorship order without the agreement of all affected authors.

5. Equal Contributions and Group Authorship

5.1 Equal Contributions

Jurnal Jaring SainTek permits authors to indicate equal contributions when two or more authors have contributed equally to the work.

Equal contributions should be stated clearly in a footnote or author contribution statement.

Example:

A.B. and C.D. contributed equally to this work and share first authorship.

Any statement of equal contribution must be agreed upon by the authors and accurately reflect their respective contributions.

5.2 Group or Consortium Authorship

Group or consortium authorship is permitted when a study has been conducted by a research group, consortium, or collaborative team.

The group or consortium name may be listed as the author, provided that:

  1. The corresponding author submits a complete list of the individuals who qualify for authorship.

  2. Individual contributions are specified using the CRediT taxonomy, where applicable.

  3. The responsibilities of individual authors and non-author contributors are clearly distinguished.

  4. All individuals listed as authors meet the authorship criteria and approve the final manuscript.

The list of group members and their contributions may be included in the manuscript, a supplementary file, or another appropriate section, subject to the journal's editorial requirements.

6. Generative AI and Professional Writing Assistance

6.1 Use of Generative AI Tools

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including large language models and AI-assisted writing applications, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot independently accept responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript, or respond to questions concerning research integrity.

Authors may use AI tools for appropriate purposes, such as language improvement, grammar checking, translation assistance, formatting, or research support, provided that the use complies with applicable ethical standards.

When generative AI tools are used to produce or substantially modify manuscript content, authors must disclose the use transparently in the manuscript or the relevant declaration section. The disclosure should identify the tool used, its purpose, and the nature of its contribution, as appropriate.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of the submitted work. They must verify all AI-generated information, references, data interpretations, and other substantive outputs before incorporating them into the manuscript.

AI tools must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, generate misleading evidence, misrepresent authorship, or conceal plagiarism or other research misconduct.

6.2 Professional Writing, Editing, and Translation Assistance

Professional writers, editors, translators, or other individuals who assist with manuscript preparation must be appropriately acknowledged when their contributions do not qualify for authorship.

The acknowledgment should describe the nature of the assistance and disclose relevant funding or sponsorship, where applicable.

Undisclosed ghostwriting or any arrangement intended to conceal a person's substantial contribution to the preparation of a manuscript is prohibited.

7. Changes to Authorship

Any change to the author list, including the addition or removal of an author or a change in author order, must be justified and approved by all affected authors.

7.1 Before Acceptance

Before a manuscript is accepted, requests to add, remove, or reorder authors must be submitted in writing by the corresponding author to the Editor-in-Chief.

The request must include:

  1. A clear explanation of the reason for the proposed change.

  2. Written confirmation of agreement from all existing authors.

  3. Written consent from any author being added or removed, where applicable.

  4. Confirmation that any newly added author meets the journal's authorship criteria.

The editorial team will assess the request and determine whether the proposed change is appropriate.

7.2 After Acceptance or Publication

Changes to authorship after acceptance or publication will be considered only in exceptional circumstances and must be supported by a documented justification and the consent of all affected authors.

The Editor-in-Chief may request additional evidence or consult the authors' affiliated institutions when authorship concerns cannot be resolved directly.

Where a change is approved after publication, the journal will publish an appropriate correction notice to maintain the transparency and accuracy of the scholarly record.

Authorship disputes that cannot be resolved through agreement among the authors may be referred to the relevant affiliated institution or competent authority for investigation.

8. Author Names, Affiliations, and ORCID

All authors must provide accurate and complete identifying and affiliation information during manuscript submission.

The following requirements apply:

  1. Author names: Names must be entered consistently and accurately in the manuscript and the journal submission system. Academic degrees and professional titles should not be included in the author byline.

  2. Institutional affiliations: Authors should provide the institution or organization where the research was primarily conducted. Additional affiliations may be included where relevant. If an author's current affiliation differs from the institution where the work was conducted, the current address may be stated separately.

  3. Corresponding author information: A valid email address must be provided for the corresponding author.

  4. ORCID iD: All authors are required to provide a valid ORCID iD to support accurate author identification, attribution, and research discoverability.

  5. Accuracy of metadata: The author names, affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID iDs entered in the journal submission system must correspond to the information provided in the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their names, affiliations, and identifiers are accurate and for notifying the editorial team of any necessary corrections.

Commitment to Authorship Integrity

Jurnal Jaring SainTek is committed to ensuring that authorship reflects genuine scholarly contributions and that all contributors receive appropriate recognition.

The Editor-in-Chief and editorial team reserve the right to request clarification or supporting documentation when authorship, contributorship, or disclosure concerns arise. Where there is evidence of an authorship-related ethical violation, the journal may take appropriate editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics policies and relevant institutional procedures.
