Peer Review Process

Jurnal Jaring SainTek (JJST) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published twice a year, in April and October. The journal accepts manuscripts written in Bahasa Indonesia or English and focuses on research, scientific reviews, and scholarly studies in industrial technology, chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, environmental engineering, informatics, and related fields.

Each manuscript submitted to JJST undergoes an initial editorial screening and, if it meets the journal's requirements, a fair and rigorous peer-review process. The journal aims to ensure that all published articles demonstrate scientific merit, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to its aims and scope.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts are initially assessed by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned editor to determine whether they:

  • Fall within the aims and scope of Jurnal Jaring SainTek.

  • Comply with the journal's Author Guidelines and manuscript preparation requirements.

  • Demonstrate sufficient originality, scientific merit, and relevance.

  • Meet the journal's publication ethics requirements and originality standards.

All manuscripts must be original and must not have been published previously or be under consideration for publication in another journal.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's basic requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected without external peer review.

2. Peer-Review Model

Jurnal Jaring SainTek applies a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another during the review process.

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the submission.

Reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, subject expertise, and absence of significant conflicts of interest with the authors or the research being evaluated.

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based assessments to help improve the scientific quality, clarity, and contribution of each manuscript.

3. Review Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts according to the following criteria, as applicable to the article type:

  • Originality and novelty: The extent to which the manuscript presents original findings or meaningful contributions to existing knowledge.

  • Relevance and significance: The alignment of the research with the journal's aims and scope and its potential contribution to the relevant field.

  • Literature review: The adequacy, relevance, and critical use of existing scholarly literature.

  • Methodological rigor: The appropriateness, clarity, and validity of the research design, methods, data collection, and analysis.

  • Results and discussion: The clarity and validity of the findings, the quality of their interpretation, and their relationship to previous research.

  • Conclusions: The extent to which the conclusions are supported by the findings and address the research objectives.

  • References and research ethics: The accuracy of citations, proper acknowledgment of sources, and compliance with applicable research and publication ethics standards.

  • Presentation and readability: The clarity, organization, and technical quality of the manuscript.

Reviewers may recommend acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Their recommendations provide the basis for the editorial decision.

4. Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Jaring SainTek are subject to plagiarism screening using plagiarism detection software.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original and that the work, ideas, and words of others are appropriately cited or quoted.

If the screening process identifies potential plagiarism, excessive text similarity, or other concerns regarding originality, the editorial team will assess the findings and may request clarification, require revisions, or reject the manuscript, depending on the severity of the concern.

Any confirmed violation of publication ethics will be handled in accordance with the journal's Plagiarism Policy and other applicable publication ethics policies.

Similarity reports are treated as a screening tool and are not the sole basis for determining whether plagiarism has occurred.

5. Review Timeline

The time required to complete peer review depends on the availability and responsiveness of reviewers, the complexity of the manuscript, and the revisions required.

The journal aims to complete the first round of peer review within approximately six weeks of sending the manuscript to reviewers. Under normal circumstances, the first-round review process may take up to 12 weeks.

These timeframes are indicative rather than guaranteed. Additional time may be required when reviewers are unavailable, further expert opinions are necessary, or substantial revisions are requested.

Authors will be informed of editorial decisions and any required revisions through the journal's online submission system.

6. Editorial Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on whether a manuscript is accepted, returned for revision, or rejected.

Editorial decisions are based on the reviewers' recommendations, the scientific quality and originality of the manuscript, its relevance to the journal's aims and scope, and compliance with the journal's editorial and publication ethics policies.

Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept: The manuscript is accepted for publication without further substantive revision.

  • Minor Revision: The manuscript requires limited revisions before a final decision can be made.

  • Major Revision: The manuscript requires substantial revisions and may be returned to reviewers for further assessment.

  • Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal's scientific, methodological, ethical, or scope requirements.

When reviewer recommendations differ, the Editor-in-Chief may seek an additional review or consult members of the Editorial Board before making a decision.

The editorial decision is final, subject to the journal's applicable procedures for handling appeals and publication ethics concerns.

7. Publication of Accepted Articles

Acceptance of a manuscript does not guarantee publication in a specific issue. Accepted manuscripts are prepared for publication according to the journal's production schedule and editorial requirements.

The Editor-in-Chief determines the publication sequence of accepted articles, considering factors such as the date of acceptance, completion of editorial and production processes, relevance to the issue, and the journal's publication schedule.

Jurnal Jaring SainTek is committed to conducting peer review fairly, transparently, and consistently to maintain the quality, credibility, and integrity of its published scientific record.
