Conflict of Interest
Jurnal Ilmiah Manajemen Ubhara (JMU) is committed to maintaining transparency, objectivity, fairness, and integrity throughout the research and publication process. All authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in the publication process are expected to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, their professional judgment.
1. Definition of Conflict of Interest
A conflict of interest occurs when personal, professional, financial, or other relationships may improperly influence an individual's decisions, actions, or assessment of a manuscript.
Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to:
-
Financial interests, such as employment, consultancy, honoraria, research funding, grants, investments, or other financial relationships.
-
Personal relationships, including family relationships, close friendships, personal disputes, or other relationships that may affect impartiality.
-
Professional or academic relationships, such as current or recent collaboration, supervisory relationships, institutional affiliations, or direct competition.
-
Institutional interests, where an individual's affiliation or responsibilities may influence their judgment.
-
Other competing interests that could reasonably be perceived as affecting the objectivity of research or editorial decisions.
The existence of a conflict of interest does not necessarily mean that research or a manuscript is invalid. However, relevant conflicts must be disclosed and appropriately managed.
2. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors must disclose any financial and non-financial interests that could influence the design, conduct, analysis, interpretation, or reporting of their research.
A conflict-of-interest declaration should be included in the submitted manuscript or provided through the journal's designated submission process.
If no competing interests exist, authors should include the following statement:
"The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest."
Authors are responsible for ensuring that all relevant interests are disclosed accurately and that the declaration reflects the circumstances of all co-authors.
3. Responsibilities of Editors
Editors must disclose any conflicts of interest that could affect their editorial judgment. An editor who has a conflict of interest regarding a submitted manuscript must not participate in decisions concerning that manuscript.
Where necessary, the manuscript will be assigned to another qualified editor who can assess it independently and impartially.
Editorial decisions must be based on the manuscript's scholarly quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, and compliance with the journal's policies, rather than personal, financial, or institutional interests.
4. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment. If a conflict could compromise their impartiality, they should decline the invitation or inform the editorial team so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained through the peer-review process for personal, professional, or financial advantage.
5. Assessment and Management of Conflicts
The editorial team is responsible for assessing disclosed conflicts of interest and determining appropriate measures to manage them. Such measures may include reassignment of editorial responsibilities, appointment of alternative reviewers, requests for additional disclosures, or publication of relevant declarations when appropriate.
The journal may request further clarification from authors, editors, or reviewers when a declaration is incomplete or when additional concerns arise.
6. Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest
If an undisclosed conflict of interest is identified after submission or publication, the journal will assess the circumstances and determine appropriate action in accordance with its editorial policies and publication ethics principles.
Depending on the seriousness of the case, actions may include requesting a declaration or correction, issuing a notice of concern, or considering further action in accordance with the journal's correction and retraction policy.
7. Commitment to Transparency
JMU expects all parties involved in the publication process to act honestly, disclose relevant competing interests, and cooperate in resolving potential conflicts.
This policy aims to protect the credibility of published research, support impartial editorial decisions, and maintain the trust of authors, reviewers, readers, and the wider academic community.
